Glutamate

Glutamic acid is used by almost all living things in the biosynthesis of proteins. It is non-essential to humans, meaning our bodies can synthesize it.

Glutamate serves as a neurotransmitter, i.e. a chemical messenger that transmits signals across synapses (the biological junction of two neurons).
