Genotype

The allelic combination can be either homozygous, meaning two identical alleles, or heterozygous, which means genotype consists of two different alleles. This combination determines the characteristic expression of the gene – for example, eye colour. The way alleles contribute to the final trait varies on their interaction as well as various environmental factors. This effect explains why the same genotype can have a certain outcome in one individual and different in another.
